for me, it's probably going to only be three (maybe four), but they are good ones:

san marzano - need i say more? this is the tomato that is the "official" sauce tomato of the pizza-making world. according to the hype, this tomato stands above all others when it comes to quality for sauce and also for taste. i tend to beleive that a lot of a plant's success is in the soil, but do plan to try these this year.

cherry tomatoes - i love these things, sincerely. they've got just the right flavor and dry perfectly. they also make very good sauce and crushed tomatoes, which ic anned last year with great success

yellow pear tomaotes - these also tasted great and had some good "meat" on them, which went well by themselves or when in combination with the cherry tomatoes' juciness. i used these with the cherry tomatoes of my salsa pomodora siciliana and had outstanding results.

early girls - these tomatoes tend to be a little smaller than your beefsteaks and other morefamous tomatoes, but in my expereince they pack a flavor punch that far exceeds the bigger ones, which tend to lack flavor. last year, our early girls were about half REALLY REALLY good and the other half simply good., but i will give them anotehr try this year.

Last year, Mrs. Engineer had a few of Early girls and I'm not kidding you, we fed the neighborhood...there were a few times that we went out and pulled 40-50 tomatoes. They were such producers that I can't overlook them this year. Maybe a beefsteak or roma thrown in too.

This will be another year where I'm trying to get them to grow after several disappointing years where they wouldn't...I all but gave up and went to the farmer's market instead. But given last year's success, I am pumped for more fresh off the vine tomatoes...I can't even begin to tell you how many I pulled off the vine and ate like an apple. We also love Basil, so I would eat sliced tomatos and basil leaves on a big wedge of buffalo mozzarella...I can't wait!

I just received my seed from Burpee's yesterday.

We are going to start; Black Krim, Cherokee Purple, Mortgage Lifter, Orange Wellington Hybrid, and Yellow Pear.

We plan on also planting; Green Zebra, Beef steak, Golden Jubilee, Brandywine, Big Boy , Mr Stripey, Cherry and Grape Tomatoes.
