About that time to make some list on what you're gonna plant this year. What are you guys gonna grow this year?

I haven't decided yet besides the normal jalaps, serranos, piquins, and anehiems. The rest I will come up with after I decide what recipes I am going to use out of the canning book I got last year. I'll get the name for you guys I know Taz has it and it is really got some good recipes in it.

I gave up on gardening, as I had a couple of summers that I couldn't grow Tomatos...which are by all accounts a fruit bearing weed! Last year Mrs. Engineer mixed a few things (Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Japs, eggplant, and squash) around in some of the flower beds. The thought was that if they didn't do anything than no harm done, we still had a flower bed instead of a garden turned weed patch. I will tell you that we had so many things off of the few plants, that I am pumped to try again this year. Haven't gotten the list together yet, but there will definitely be peppers and tomatoes.

My neighbor just pisses me off, he is a master gardner and his flowers and veggies are outrageous. I trade BBQ for veggies...it works well for everyone involved. He also said that my original garden spot was to close to a black walnut tree...that their roots "poison" the ground for plants and grass???

well heck I would just tell your neighbor what ya want him to grow for ya..lol..looks like you got a good trade system worked out. I love canning at the end of the season and filling up the canning room. Makes ya feel like you accomplished something.

for peppers, i am going to try some that rivet sent up. i forget the anme right off the top of my head, but they aren, ifi i remember correctly, the same ones that he made those excellent salsas with.

two tohers i'd like to try are whatever peppers they use in hungarian paprika (if i can find out what they are) and also whatver peppers they use in those canisters of "crushed red pepper flakes" (once again, if i can find out what they are). the only other one i'd like to try is your simple cayenne pepper.

Here is a good link for you Taz http://www.budapest-tourist-guide.com/hungarian-paprika.html also red pepper flakes are from just crushed red peppers. You would be able to pick how hot you want the flakes and then grow peppers till they fully mature and turn red. Just crush them coarsely and tada !

We will plant Various Bells, Jalapeno, New Mex, Cayenne, Hot Banana, and Poblanos and see if we can keep the neighbors out of the garden this year.

Well I'll toss this in just for the info. Although I live on a farm we don't have the best spot for a garden, so we plant our tamatoes and peppers in a 1-1/2 ft round planter. Thewse work great since they are better than a foot wide and easy to keep up. We can replace the soil each year and use the old soil to fill in the yard as needed. We get tons of tamatoe and peppers doing this and no garden to hoe or keep up!

Hopefully this years garden will better than last years. Very cool summer and wet. All my tomatoes got the blight. Only thing I got were beans and cabbage and a handful of peppers. This year, with ALX's help in the seed selection, I am doing 20 plants of MuMex Big Jim Anaheims, around 12 habanero, 12 cayeene, 12 cubanelle, 12 Giant marconis, 16 NuMex Jalmundo Jalapenos, 16 NuMex Garnet paprika, 20 bells, 18 Roma, 3 big boys, 3 cherry, 12 tomatillos, and then a boatload of pole string beans, about 30 feet of each beets, spinach, carrots along with a few plants of Butternut squash, zuchinnis, pickling cucumbers. 1/2 dozen or so brussel sprout plants. 6 cabbage for perogies and kraut. A small bed of leaf lettuce. 4-5 50' rows of sweet corn. Then I have a separate hillside and will do a few plants of watermellons, cantaloupes, and some Dills Atlantic pumpkins, the 500 pounders as well as some smaller baking ones for pies.
Have all my peppers and maters in their little peat pods in the laundry room under grow lights. Out of all the seeds planted, I think only 3-4 didn't germinate. Got my pepper seeds from the University of NM, great place. Everything else from Burpees. Will transfer these to the basement here shortly where they will live until its safe to plant outdoors. About another month and a half. Oh yeah, have a bunch of peas, will be planting them here real soon.

Holy frakin' farmers market Todd! That is a fantastic inventory and selection. I'm looking for a decent growing season again this year. I have a bunch of fruit trees that didn't do much last year (except for the pie cherries...love tart and homemade cherry pie). I expect a heavy year for apples, peachrs, pears, and plums.

Sent from anandroid mobile device...disregard any typos...you try to type on a two inch keyboard with giant man hands!! >$

Nice selection!
Not sure how many plants I have going, need to count them.
Lots of peppers and lots of maters, I'll get them all counted then snap a few pics and place them in the proper sections.

How close to me are you, I need to find a place to steal watermelons & cantaloupes... #:T
